How do poets look at art? ARTlines2: ART BECOMES POETRY illustrates artworks chosen by curators at Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts to inspire poets, together with the winning poems culled from a nation- wide poetry competition.
“…a jolt of electricity surging through a work of art” is how one of the judges describes the poems in this anthology. The featured artworks become a trigger for exploring a range of emotions, for adroit wordplays, for giving work from centuries past a 21st century sheen, and for reimagining and reinterpreting what the artists created. Thoughts from the competition’s renowned judges, a sprinkling of art history by the Head of Art History at the Glassell School of Art, and an introduction by poet Tony Hoagland also impact this beautifully designed anthology.
