Peter Pan is a naughty boy who never ages. Instead, he lives on the island of Neverland where he leads the Lost Boys and has adventures with mermaids, fairies and pirates. The two books in this edition include: Peter and Wendy (originally published 1911) Barrie's most famous book chronicles the adventures of Peter, Wendy Darling and fairy Tinker Bell and pirate Captain Hook. The novel began as a 1904 play which was then published as a book seven years later. The Little White Bird (1902) The full edition of the 1902 novel (extracts of which formed the novel Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens) was originally written for adults in a darkly comic tone.

About the Author

Scottish novelist Sir James Matthew Barrie (1860 - 1937) is remembered as the creator of Peter Pan. He was born and educated in Scotland but later moved to London. The Llewelyn Davies boys inspired him to write about a baby boy who has magical adventures in Kensington Gardens (included in The Little White Bird), then to write Peter Pan, a -fairy play- about an ageless boy. Barrie was made a baronet by George V in 1913 and a member of the Order of Merit in the 1922 New Year Honour. Prior to his death, he gave the rights to the Peter Pan works to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. Barrie met actress Mary Ansell in 1891 through his friend Jerome K. Jerome and they married in 1894. In 1895, they bought a house in South Kensington. Barrie would take long walks in nearby Kensington Gardens, and in 1900 the couple moved into a house directly overlooking the gardens.
