We welcome Lynn Reardon, author of Beyond the Homestretch: What I Learned from Saving Racehorses (published by New World Library). Her book focuses on the many ex-racehorses encountered at her nonprofit Texas adoption ranch -- and on the career changes the horses and she have made together.

The book was a finalist for a prestigious book award given by the Thoroughbred Times. Reardon used to work in accounting in the Washington, DC area. Horses were her passion. She moved to Texas and started a nonprofit racehorse adoption program (similar to greyhound adoption, only for racehorses instead). At first, the program was a simple website listing service for race trainers to find homes for their retiring racehorses. But within a few months, we had acquired a small ranch -- which rapidly filled up with donated ex-racehorses looking for new homes. Nearly 40 racehorses came to the ranch in the first year alone!

Her organization is LOPE ("LoneStar Outreach to Place Ex-racers")
