Holiday Favorites and a Taste of Texas: Notes from Valerie's Messy Desk
Have you figured out the bolthole entrance off of Memorial into our shopping center? Hopefully the construction will move along and get our other entrances back open soon. But if you do work your way to us, we have so many books, games, and puzzles to delight you that it will be worth it!
We reviewed some of our favorite holiday books on the blog this week. Some are new and some are old standards. And if we get more snow (what was that all about?), you can snuggle in with a cup of hot chocolate and read away.
There is one more author visit this year and it's a perfect one to usher us into the holidays. Nina and Edd Hindee from Taste of Texas will be here at 3 on Saturday to sign their lovely new cookbook, which features their iconic restaurant and many great recipes. If you can't make it but need the book to fulfill your holiday list, call us to make that happen.
In the new year, we are looking forward to our signature picture book event, Bookworm Book Festival. This year's lineup is the best one yet. It will be a morning for the whole family to celebrate the love of reading.
Last week I read An American Marriage by Tayari Jones. It is mostly told in letters, and it had me glued to the chair. I can't wait to share it with you in February. Now I'm reading Priestdaddy, an engaging memoir that was picked as one of the New York Times top ten books of 2017. I'm listening to Brain Rules For Aging Well by John Medina. It's a fast-paced look into how to keep your brain young. And I need it.
What are you reading?
