Attention Ereader Owners
Do you own a Nook, a Sony e-reader, or an iPad?
You can purchase from Blue Willow Bookshop online and transfer your eBooks to your reader! It requires a few extra steps, but we’re knowledgeable and ready to help! This brochure is your starting point – and we’re happy to help tutor you one-on-one! These instructions apply to both PC and Mac computers. (Please note: these instructions do not work with a Kindle. The Kindle is owned by Amazon and only allows downloads from the Kindle Store.)
Things that have to be done, regardless of your type of reader:
You must have an account set up with bluewillowbookshop.com – it’s free and easy to do this and we don’t store your CC#.
You must have a Google account – you can get a Google account by securing a Gmail address or by setting up a Google account with your current email address (does NOT have to be Gmail). It’s free! If you have questions about how to do this, let us know – we can walk you through it!
You must download the free program called Adobe Digital Editions which provides the program for which you can “drag” your books to your reader. It is located at the following: http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/ or you can Google “Adobe Digital Editions” and download from there. Again, this is a free program and you should not have to pay anything or provide a credit card # for any reason. Questions on this step? We can walk you through this, as well!
Basic Instructions for purchasing/downloading an eBook from the Blue Willow website:
Step 1: Go to www.bluewillowbookshop.com and search for a title in the search box on the front page of our website, it will take you to the title. (For example: Room by Emma Donoghue)
Step 2: Click “OTHER EDITIONS OF THIS TITLE” link (it is blue)
Step 3: Click on the edition of the book that has (Google eBook) in parenthesis to the right of the title (you can click on the cover or the blue underlined title).
Step 4: Click “Add to cart”
Step 5: Click “checkout”
Step 6: At this point, you will need to create an account for yourself at Blue Willow Bookshop or log in if you have already done this step. To create your Blue Willow account, click on “Blue Willow Bookshop users, click here to log in now”. On the next screen, click on “create new account”, enter a user name, email, and password, and click create. You are taken back to the home page, and then can click “checkout”. You also need to create a "Google account" as the eBook really lives in the clouds, not on your computer, smart phone, or e-reader until you transfer it over. You don't need a Gmail account, just a Google account. It is free and you can use your usual email and password to “create” the account. Once you’ve done both of these, you can move on to step 7.
Step 7a: For first-time eBook customers - If you’ve logged in with your Blue Willow account and hit check out, the screen will then ask you to grant access to your Google books account from Blue Willow. Click on “click here to link your account now”. You then move to the Google site where you sign in there (if you haven’t already) and agree to link your account. This takes you back to Blue Willow's site where you accept the Google eBooks terms of service. Once you have your Blue Willow and Google Accounts created and linked, you can move through the rest of the purchasing process by entering your credit card, etc. (Thank goodness, you only have to do both of these once. Next time, it will bypass this process and move you directly to purchasing after you log in.)
Step 7b: For returning e-book customers – click the “click here” blue link under the shopping cart where it says “Customer Information”. You will be prompted to enter your Blue Willow Bookshop account name and password and then taken back to another screen to complete your purchase.
Step 8: After purchasing your book, close out of the Blue Willow Bookshop internet window and go directly to www.google.com. Look in the top right corner of the page, and if it says “sign in”, then you will need to sign back in with your Google account info you created a few steps ago. If it doesn’t say “sign in”, then you are probably already signed in from before. To find the books you purchased, look over at the words in the top left of the internet page. You might see “mail, images, maps, etc. If you see “books”, click on it. If you don’t see books, click the “more” tab, and then click “books” in the drop down list. If you can’t see the “covers” of the books you’ve bought (and a few free ones they throw in there for you), then click the words “My Library” in the middle of the page in blue and your library should show up.
Step 9: If you click “read now”, the book will appear on your computer screen and you can start reading. However, getting this book to your reader requires a few more steps. Are you still with us? If not, call and ask for help! To begin the transfer process, click on the selected book cover under the blue “Purchased” heading. Click “read on your device” in the blue box on the right.
Step 10: At this point, we’re going to pass instructions from the Google people along to you, but we’re still here to help! This is where instructions specific to your device come in to play, so move through the remainder of the help book based on which reader you own.
